Your Melt Headspa Experience begins as you recline on a heated spa bed, wrapped in cozy blankets for complete comfort. Your stylist will perform a deep scalp cleansing to exfoliate buildup, remove excess oil, and restore balance to your scalp and hair.

Why we started Melt Head Spa
Mint Hair Crafting has always been built on treatments for healthy hair, caring service, and a great scalp massage. In 2016, I redesigned our salon plumbing to create a more relaxing wash experience — complete with dim lighting and aromatherapy — because I’ve always believed that amazing salon experiences begin with ‘the best part’, an ahhh-mazing shampoo massage.
When Mint Hair Crafting relocated from Royal Oak to Ferndale in 2022, I knew I wanted to expand what we offered our guests, but I was searching for something that felt deeply aligned with my passion and vision. In 2023, after many inspiring conversations with my team and longtime guests — who often told me how much they looked forward to my scalp massages — I began to reconnect with my “why.”
That’s when one of our stylists, Em Chon, shared her excitement about Japanese head spas and how she planned to seek them out while traveling. Her passion, combined with my own foundation in hair care and scalp massage inspired me to create a service that felt nurturing, restorative, and rooted in self-care.
Melt Head Spa was born from that vision: a high-touch, self care ritual designed to support scalp wellness, promote healthy hair, and give our guests a moment of true pause.
Today, we’ve grown far beyond what I ever imagined, and I’m deeply grateful — to my team + our guests for their inspiration + for trusting my vision. Melt Head Spa is not just a service, it’s the heart of who we are: a space for self-care through hair care.

Each guest enjoys a private, personalized experience in their own treatment room. Rooms are located next to one another, with one bed per room, so you can arrive together, relax together — and still be fully cared for individually.

“I had a great experience at the melt head spa at mint hair crafting. Megz did my treatment. I booked a signature melt headspa experience without a blowout. I came in feeling stressed, frazzled, and exhausted and left feeling lighter and rejuvenated.
It was freezing outside and the treatment started a little later than scheduled, so they graciously offered me a complimentary blowout. The blowout was fabulous and the products used were dreamy.

Melt by Mint Hair Crafting is a head spa is inspired by Japanese techniques with an emphasis of self care + wellbeing through scalp and hair massage. Imagine a dreamy scalp massage with sound, water and aromatherapies on a warmed bed in a private room.

To prepare, we suggest arriving to Mint in cozy, comfortable clothing and hair that has been detangled to the best of your ability. While we do detangle your hair before the experience, excessively tangled hair may impact your total head spa session time. If you need assistance, please email us at connect@minthaircrafting.com so we can support your unique needs.

We assess the condition of your hair and your scalp and talk through any concerns you've had.
You will then lie back into the spa bed with a bolster for your knees and a cozy, heated blanket.
We will begin cleansing your hair and scalp, checking in with you on the temperature of the water, followed with massage of the scalp, gentle brushing of the skin and hair.
We will alternate between scalp treatments and hair treatments based on your needs while adding steam to create an atmosphere of relaxation and a soothing reconditioning. You may fall asleep and that's totally awesome!

Aside from an immersive sensory experience and total relaxation, our head spa services involve deep cleansing and exfoliation of the scalp, which will help remove product buildup, excess oils, and dead skin cells. This promotes a healthier scalp environment.

Yes, however, if your hair has hard water deposits and envrionmental impurities, your color may appear lighter or brighter afterward. The products we've selected for our services have been mindfully curated to provide optimum results for our guests.

Yes, but we do suggest receiving our head spa experience between installs so your scalp can receive all of the benefits of manipulation. Fresh extensions are not a good canidate for head spa services as the tension may be too intense.
We are not responsible for any hair enhancements that may slip after a head spa experience. -
All of our salon services include an mini head spa experience through scalp massage, a warm towel and reconditioning treatment. Our Melt head spa experiences are best reserved 48 hours after a color service.

Yes! You can experience headspa services before a base color (gray coverage or all over color), glossing or toning services and haircuts although you may need to reserve your services with different stylists. We do suggest our blondes and dimensional guests to experience headspa services apart from their color experiences as timing may not align.

Yes! But if you have broken skin or any site of oozing on your scalp, we will suggest you to seek medical guidance and end our services to protect you as we’re mindful of our scope of practice. We can work with many scalp conditions but cannot provide diagnosis.

We suggest relaxed clothing and shoes that are easy to slip off so you can get as comfy as possible. We do provide robes if you’d like and we will be mindful of your makeup but encourage you to come bare faced.

Yes! We can support you through understanding your options for topical hair + scalp care to address your concerns. We understand that can be a delicate conversations and we want to support you as best we can.

We’re mindful of your lived experience and understand that hair loss can be a sensitive topic. The service may be modified to meet your needs and be more focused on scalp wellness and relaxation.
