What to know:

  • As a stylist, you're providing services to guests within a salon. The salon is responsible for supplying everything needed for the services + markets the business to bring guests into your chair. This makes a stylist an employee and requires a W2 tax document.

A salon should not provide a stylist with a 1099 - that would make you a booth renter. Salons that have this practice are not paying taxes on wages and placing that financial burden onto the stylist.

W2 wages provide stylists with stability and predictability.

Your regular paycheck allows for stronger financial planning and budgeting, supporting financial security.

  • The hottest conversation on social media, "who is paying the most commission?" but that is only a factor of total compensation and growth potential for a successful stylist and career.

"More" commission confuses stylists in missing context.

For example: "5% more" BUT less guest demand, fewer new guests monthly + lower guest retention is not a pay increase. Which looks like more time marketing and less time doing what you love - doing hair.

Especially for those who are misclassified and the salon is not paying taxes on your wages.

  • No. Our compensation is inclusive of the materials needed for services.

  • We are a legit, legal W2 salon. This means we pay taxes on your wages + your tips.

We pay bi weekly with direct deposit and our team is paid an hourly wage guarantee or a bonus of commission, whichever is higher.

Each stylist has biweekly service goals that bump them into a bonus of commission to maximize earning potential.

Credit card gratuities are paid out every day through Tippy.

  • Our hourly wages provide full time income between $24,000-$60,000 before commission bonuses.

We pay 43 - 45% within our bonus structure.

Mint Hair Crafting pays taxes on all tips. This is important as your tips are a large part of your total income.

  • We provide paid time off to our team.

Mint Hair Crafting understands that retirement may feel far away but it's vital to plan for your future - we provide a matching IRA contribution after your first year.

We help our team build and maintain their tool kit each year based on their needs.

  • Retirement matters and the sooner you begin preparing the stronger your future.

We provide a retirement contribution of up to 3%.

  • Workshops + educational resources are provided 4-8x a year.

This investment in skill enhancement contributes to career growth and increased earning potential.
